Good news from Dad

Happy to report that Kaiya is in Heidi's arms right now. The breathing tube was removed with no real complications, other than a little bit of a raspy voice from having it in there for 5 days. We are very thankful that we have taken this important step towards recovery. Still lots of tubes, but happy when each one comes out.

Looks like we will be in ICU until Thursday, and then be moved to a regular pediatric floor. Dr's are continuing to monitor Kaiya's progress. Brain inflammation, left eye/no response on left side of face remain serious issues.

Nobody has told us this in certain terms, but I feel safe to say that Kaiya will survive, which we are very thankful to God for. We understand the risk of complications, but we continue to pray for a full recovery. Our hope is to bring Kaiya home on Christmas day, which the day she will receive her last antibiotic treatment.

In addition to Kaiya, please keep Heidi in your prayers. She is starting to feel sick from all the stress/lack of sleep (my personal medical opinion) from the past 5 days. Trying to get her to sleep, but the Mom side of her wants to spend all the time with Kaiya.

All in all, we are very thankful for the recent progress. Thank you to you all for your continued prayers/support/notes as we continue down the road to recovery.

Heidi-
Don't know if you remember me, but this is Jenn (Hicks) Pflugner from TU. Kelly Manning e-mailed a prayer request, and I've been praying and checking up on you guys since. I had to write and tell you how happy I am that you can hold your baby girl. I burst into tears when I read that. I have four, and my oldest (Alli, 5 1/2) went to the hospital at 3 days old because she spiked a fever. She had a spinal tap and all kind of tests, and everything ended up being fine. Reading your story does make me ask God why Kaiya and not Alli, but He has a purpose for everything. Your strength has been amazing, and know that you are covered in prayer.

Praise God for continued progress and being off the vent!!! We will be praying for the left-sided issues and for continued energy and health for you both, Mark and Heidi, through this process.

What an encouragement to hear that she didn't have complications being taken off the vent - Praise the Lord! I'm so thankful that she's in mommy's arms. Thanks again for your continued updates - you're covered in prayer.

God is so good! I will still be praying. I will especially be thinking of you all while I watch the Biggest Loser finale :) I think it will be a little overshadowed for you. (Ali's cousin, Molly)

We'll keeping praying for the specific requests, including health for you wonderful parents as you take care of both of your sweet little girls. Love to you all!

Cousin David: the news that Kaiya is off the ventilator and in Heidi's arms is the most important and encouraging fact I have heard about the whole situation. Heidi's touch is the very best medicine, and both mother and daughter are lucky to have a strong husband and father like Mark. Our prayers are with you.
