Vintage

My friend April got married at the end of August and it was a happy day. The theme was "vintage picnic". I was thinking about what exactly vintage meant-because I've been friends with these girls for 15 years now and I was starting to think maybe we were vintage friends. Here is what I found:

vin·tage

  [vin-tij]  Show IPA noun, adjective, verb,vin·taged, vin·tag·ing.
noun
1.
the wine from a particular harvest or crop. (no)
2.
the annual produce of the grape harvest, especially withreference to the wine obtained (no)
3.
an exceptionally fine wine from the crop of a good year. (no)
4.
the time of gathering grapes, or of winemaking. (no)
5.
the act or process of producing wine; winemaking. (no)
adjective
7.
of or pertaining to wines or winemaking. (no)
8.
being of a specified vintage: Vintage wines are usually moreexpensive than nonvintage wines. (no)
9.
representing the high quality of a past time: vintage cars;vintage movies. (here we go)
10.
old-fashioned or obsolete: vintage jokes. (maybe some, but mostly no)
11.
being the best of its kind: They praised the play as vintageO'Neill. (YES! i liked this one :))

So I'm going to stick with this wedding, and these friends being vintage (adjectives), definitions 9 and 11. High quality of a past time, and certainly the best of their kind. We are blessed and had so much fun celebrating April and Josh!

It was the first time all our kids had been together as a group-we had seen certain babies here and there but it was so much fun to have them all together!
Sweet Baby Wyatt!!!!! So excited to see this little love who made his arrival in Sin City and has been too far away to hold!
Baby swap!
April has always been SO wonderful with all of our kiddos...she is the best kid person I've ever met.
Rehearsal dinner in Detroit.

Reese nosed her way in quickly to the baby feeding situation. Thanks, Abs. :)
Pretty historically we have taken 95% of our pictures ourselves with hands held out. I think it stretches out any extra chins and works well for us as a group.
Here is a fun story: Once upon a time a couple Springs ago, Abby sent me a picture of a pregnancy test. I sent her one back. We had both taken tests on the same day and both were positive and we had the same due date. Also fun: she had planned a trip to come see us (accidentally Mother's Day weekend, sorry again Cal and Nate :)). Turns out the day she arrived, I had a miscarriage-and three cheers to her for being such a good support buddy sitting with me in an Emergency Room while she herself was the same exact distance pregnant. In any event-sweet Audra was born and perfect and beautiful, and our little buddy Hutch ended up being just 10 weeks behind her. The Lord is so wise in his ways-as I would have been due almost the exact day we moved back to Michigan this year. So thankful for a happy ending and a potentially arranged marriage. :)
Although Hutch would have to quit being a bully first for that to work out.
The man kind.
Bride!!!
I did her makeup. I tried to pretend like I was famous.
With a baby nurse.
Still taking time for the babies even 2 hours before she got married!

Ok how cool is this! Instead of a receiving line they put on aprons and served root beer floats as you entered the reception :)
It was the best kid wedding ever! Blankets and ice cream and games!!
We are totally the only two people weird enough to be married to each other.
a lactation situation
She had a peanut butter and jelly bar at the wedding with goldfish and animal crackers. Genius.

All of us!
Bonus: AMBER and April are friends!! Yippee to see a dear friend.
I'm sorry but this was the most awesome thing ever at a wedding ever. INstead of "wedding cake"-this whole table of just various different amazing desserts. It was some kind of wonderful.
After party. You wouldn't believe how wild it was.
Monster Mark
Wonderful Ali who always makes you feel like she loves your kids just as much as her own. She is gifted at being loving and giving and cute and sweet and we can't wait to celebrate her 4th baby coming soon. :)

Attempted group shot.

What we took when we gave up on the above. Everyone with their baby. :)
Congratulations to beautiful April and Josh! We love you so much and are so thankful you found each other and loved celebrating you and are just so darn excited. :)

The TenHaves

you are a gifted writer...and friend! so glad you have a(nother) wonderful support system:)

Karrie

Amen to all of that!

Abby

Our fun story wasn't all that fun at the time, and I really would have enjoyed simultaneous c-sections, but it has the happiest ending in little Hutch. Such a dreamboat. And I think Audra will be able to handle him just fine as she appears to have about fifteen pounds on him in that picture.

Love you, love our vintage. I kind of liked #3, too, except we'd have to alter it to something cheesy like "an exceptionally fine friendship from the Taylor University crop of 2001."

Okay, that was bad. Good thing wine goes so well with cheese. (Ha ha ha...thud. I should probably stop while I'm ahead. Or I guess behind. Oh man. Thanks for loving me even when I leave embarrassing comments on your blog.)
