So one day I was driving through our neighborhood and took a quick gander to the left. The sight below took me aback, and I quickly threw the car in reverse.
Now I realize we live in Florida. I know they are the Florida Gators, etc. But somehow, I just didn't expect one to be quite that close.
Ava promptly decided that we should name him the very appropriate, "Deodorant". Totally kidding about the appropriate part. Deodorant? I tried to suggest several other names that I thought would be perfect. But she was adamant. So now driving by Deodorant is a part of our daily routine.
For perspective, I wanted to show where he is in relation to homes. (Weird that first one is for sale!) You can see him down there on the right. We are one street to the left of the one you see. I don't think he's going to take an evening stroll by our house or anything, but still close.
There's the zoom picture of the fella.
See ya later, Alligator. Like, tomorrow.

awesome:) and i love the name deodorant. i mean, what else do you name the alligator that lives one street over???
Oh my goodness! That is scary. I would be shocked too, but then I guess like you I would remember it's Florida.
Also, happy birthday to Reese! And I love the name deodorant. Hilarious.
This really stresses me out. LOVE that she named him Deodorant, though. Hilarious.
I love that! (Not the alligator, but how Ava picked his name!) ;) I thought you were going to say you named him that because you started sweating so much when you saw him that you needed more deodorant!!! :)
i wonder if floridians would come here and be afraid of deer standing in their backyard....No....i think the alligator thing is scarier... EEK!
Dislike. Pretty neighborhood, though!
I think Deodorant is pretty cool! Who needs a dog when you have a gator? :) Do you think he's eaten any neighborhood pets yet? Hamsters...small kittens...? Crazy!
Deoderant. Hopefully her taste in names will not carry into parenthood :-) HaHa! Not to sure about the 'gator. They belong in a zoo :-) Great to chat with you yesterday!!! Have a great time with Mom! Love you!
i pretty sure i would not be buying that house for sale!!! that is so weird you have alligators! maybe some people think it is weird we have coyotes.
1) This is very scary to me. 2) Love his name and the creativity of your child. 3) My question is, does that white fence stop him? Do you think they lost a dog and had to put it up? 4) Love you.
hahaha. yup...we see this from time to time in my parents' neighborhood as well. i remember the first time i saw one after having just moved from Chicago...I did a double-take, too! just remember to run zig-zag if one ever runs after you ;-)
I am jealous. I've always wanted to see a gator in the wild. Same goes for bears - I always keep an eye out when up north. No dice on either. 2 weeks from today I am stealing Mark, grabbing 2 shamrock shakes, some chik fil a, and going us some gator huntin.
all my love...bf
