Then I had my third child. She wouldn't sleep through the night til 9 months. She wouldn't take bottles. She wouldn't take sippy cups when I took away the bottles. She throws tantrums that people 5 states away can hear.
She is really cute. Really. But I will talk about that in another post.
She is also VERY stubborn. And maybe highly sensitive to hunger and fatigue. (Surely it's those things and not my parenting or her personality.)
In the last week we have been kindly asked how they could help us to leave a store, left a restaurant, just watched and laughed, and walked with my head hanging low out of my first new small group meeting. That's just the last week. In the last four months these things she does-oh my. I have composed an ode to the tantrum.
I will not take her to the store. I will not take her anymore.
(don't let her fingers in the mouth make you think-oh maybe she's getting teeth poor thing. she had 16 teeth by 16 months. there are no more coming for a LONG time.)

(the soundtrack here would be her screaming: "no, NO, NO")
I will not take her anywhere.
*I'm taking her on a plane in a couple weeks. Pray for the passengers.
*Anyone who knows me knows I absolutely will still go all these places because I don't let kids keep me from doing fun stuff I want to do. I'm selfish like that.
*She really is cute. Did I mention that?
*My sisters keeps telling me it's just a phase. Hopefully the fact that they are 50+ makes them smart and wise and right.

hilarious!!
Yep. I've got one of those. Hoping for a break with the next one.
Hilarious post! Good for you for not letting the tantrums stop you. I'm learning that right now! :)
Oh Heidi, I love the ode....to think that after dealing with these "phases" you still had enough wit to come up with that is remarkable in iteself.
And yes, she is really cute. Hopefully Baby #4 will be a walk in the park.
Oh, my heart goes out to you ... but I'm laughing as well :) Good thing God makes them so adorable! Love your spirit and good humor :) And good for you for not letting those tantrums ruin your plans (and taking pictures!)
Hang in there. Yep, that's it for advice today. :)
You're a great mom & please know most of us other moms that witness other people's kids throwing tantrums are thinking these thoughts in this order:
1. Wow. Nice lungs on that kid.
2. Holy moly she is really rocking it out now.
3. I remember when my kid did that ... everywhere.
4. I should really buy that lady a Starbucks.
5. Or wine.
6. Or chocolate.
7. No wine. Definitely wine.
Um, I LOVE this post. And I love Reese. And I love you. And you are a great MOM. Sometimes I think those "phases" come earlier or later, or just come and stay a (long) while...Love you!
I know your face but not you from time at TU...found your blog through someone else's. Great post! Read somewhere about someone traveling with a small child on a plane--they handed out earplugs to the people around them and cookies to lighten the mood. Said the earplugs were "just in case" but it made people realize they were just doing their best and give them a bit of a break. :)
I love that other people go thru this too. prayers will be sent up next week while you fly!
oh my. I don't think anyone makes me laugh out loud quite like you do. I'm sure it's not funny to you in those moments, but I sure was laughing as I read your little poem :) you crack me up; however, i also feel your pain. i know full well that you ARE a wonderful mama...stay strong!!
